Dr. Wasser functions as both a translator and a facilitator of the content being taught in his virtual and in-person courses, webinars, tours and publications. In fulfilling the role of facilitator and translator, Dr. Wasser makes complex concepts and events intelligible to students no matter their previous level of understanding. As a translator of concepts and culture, Dr. Wasser guides learners in their grasping of new concepts in order to place new knowledge into an effective framework. Such a framework or schema allows for new insights into the world around the learner. Facilitation in Dr. Wasser’s pedagogy empowers students to develop tool sets during their initial exposure to the content. Students can continue to unlock knowledge within and beyond the course setting by activating these established tool sets.

As a translator and facilitator, Dr. Wasser further serves the learner’s educational journey by connecting new information and ideas to existing knowledge and understanding. Existing knowledge includes that which has been acquired as a student of Dr. Wasser, as well as a student’s prior personal and academic knowledge base. Additionally, the facilitation and translation in Dr. Wasser’s instruction helps students understand why the newly learned information is important. Knowledge in a broad array of divergent disciplines spanning the humanities, arts and sciences is critical to 21st century learning. The clarity that accompanies the answer to “Why am I learning this?” contributes to the achievement of this broad-based understanding.
